What is gadget insurance?

Gadget insurance is a specific policy designed to protect against loss, damage or theft of your mobile phone or tablet devices. It isn't until something happens that we realise the value of protecting these valuable devices. With gadget insurance from Chill you can take out a policy from as little as €5.99 per month*.

Why do I need gadget insurance?

Replacing your favourite gadget can be pretty expensive. In the event that your mobile phone is lost or stolen and you are tied into a contract with a mobile operator, you will be liable for paying the monthly tariff until the end of your contract and your phone will only be replaced if you have that device insured.

What’s covered under the policy?

Gadget insurance is a specific policy designed to protect against loss, damage or theft of your mobile phone or tablet devices, the exact cover will depend on the insurance product you select. There are three products available, Essential, Extra for Tablets/iPads, and Complete for all iPhones, smartphones and mobile phones.

Available benefits include;

  • Accessories cover up to €130
  • Screen or liquid damage protection

What devices can I cover?

We cover mobile phones, smartphones (including iPhones) and Tablets (including iPads) across a range of makes and models. The full list of models covered can be seen when you get a quote online. Make sure you select the correct model of your device, including the device memory capacity.

Am I covered outside of Ireland?

Yes you are covered for up to 60 days worldwide in any 12 month period.

Does my home insurance policy adequately cover gadgets?

Unfortunately the contents cover under your home insurance policy may not provide adequate cover. The excess on any claim can vary greatly, depending on the policy.

Making a claim may also have a knock on affect which can impact on your home insurance premium in the future. It also can take up to 4 weeks for a claim to be settled, that's a long time without your favourite gadget! With our gadget insurance policy, claims decision are normally made within 1 working day following receipt of all claims documents!

What is the Chill Gadget Insurance Replacement Policy?

If the device is damaged beyond economic repair the following options are available to us:

  • We will replace the device with a refurbished device. This refurbished device will be of the same or similar specification and age, to your device immediately prior to the incident of accidental damage.
  • Where such a refurbished device is not available, we will replace your device with a new device of same or similar specification.


In the event of loss or theft of the device, the following options are available to us:

  • We will replace the device with a refurbished device. This refurbished device will be of the same or similar specification and age, to your device immediately prior to the incident of loss or theft.
  • Where such a refurbished device is not available, we will replace your device with a new device of same or similar specification.


Where only part or parts of your device have been lost, stolen or destroyed, we will only replace that part or parts. We roll the policy over to cover any replacement device we issue you automatically.

What are the payment options?

You can buy your cover online here. Depending on the device you wish to cover and the level of cover you plan on purchasing, annual or monthly payment options will be available to you by Credit and Debit card.

Claims Information

Making insurance claims should be straightforward but, every now and then, the process can be less than easy. Here at Chill, we believe that our customers deserve the same level of care and support when arranging their policy as they do when making a claim.

What to do in the event of a claim?

If your gadget has been lost or stolen report it to your mobile network provider (to bar and blacklist your device) and Gardai within 24 hours of discovery. You must also complete and return a Chill gadget claim form within 30 days of the incident along with:

  1. A copy of your proof of purchase for your device
  2. Your mobile network confirmation of blacklisting
  3. Your claim excess payment

For Damaged Gadgets

If you have damaged your gadget, complete and return a Chill gadget claim form within 30 days of the incident along with:

  1. Copy of your proof of purchase for your device
  2. Your damaged device by post
  3. Your claim excess payment


Before sending your device, please remove the SIM card and memory card and ensure to back up all data. Please note we cannot guarantee to preserve data during a repair and the repair centre may destroy SIM/memory cards for data protection purposes. We would recommend using registered post to ensure the secure delivery of your device.

How many times can I claim on my policy in 12 month period?

You can claim twice in any 12 month period.

Is there a policy excess?

There is an excess payable on your gadget insurance policy. This can vary by model – for full details see your policy schedule or call our Customer Care team on 012932811.
