What Insurance Do You Need

A Guide to The Insurance Cover You Might Require

a guide to insurance coverAs a young male, I like to think I am young anyway, every year I have encountered new reasons for taking out insurance. Growing up I always thought that I’d never have to worry about having insurance; I was only interested in having the craic and watching Lost or 24. That was then, but now I have become old.

Well not really. I have a car, pay rent on a nice house and actually like going to countries on “cultural” trips. Making sure myself, my family and my property are protected at all time with the best insurance cover is confusing due to the varying amount of policies and options available on the market.

We amass a large amount of things in our lives that we want to protect and having insurance can allow us to do that. The question I always ask myself is what insurance do I actually need. Since I became an adult there are certain types of insurance that I have taken out and some that I know I should have. I’m sure many people are in the same boat as me.

Getting started with the insurance you need is simple, identify what you own and what you want to protect. Here are some of the examples of what I’ve insured or identified as needing insurance in my life.

Car

For you, the car insurance you get is dependent on the car you possess. This insurance protects you against damages caused by your car to other people’s cars and property. Different policy options are available which can protect against damage caused by fire or theft of items or property from your car.

Home

When I was younger I thought that I only needed home insurance once I owned a house. But this is not the case. Investing in this type of insurance is a great idea even if you rent or own a property. It can cover your building and contents against loss or damage.

However there can be some differences between policies in terms of what they will offer or exclude so do your research in advance. At Chill we love helping our customers with their home insurance. If you need any help we’d love to hear from you on 01 4003400.

Life Insurance

I used to think only people who were married with children needed life cover, but this doesn’t seem to be the case. We recently wrote a blog on why you should take out life insurance when you are young which highlights the importance of considering life cover at any age, the younger the better it seems

Mortgage protection

If you are in the process of getting, or saving for, a home then mortgage protection will be a prerequisite for a lender in order to be able to drawdown your mortgage. The mortgage protection will pay off your mortgage balance if anything were to happen to you unexpectedly and any balance will go to your estate.

Our Life Insurance team are on hand to help you with any questions you have about mortgage protection or other policy options you might need.

Travel Insurance

Over the last 10 years I have been in many states in the USA as well to many parts of main land Europe. Each trip has seen my packing habits evolve. I no longer wake up 30 minutes before I have to go to the airport and throw some things in a bag. Taking the time off work and paying for nice accommodation has also changed my mind-set when it comes to travel insurance.

I now know that this type of policy can cover me against issues such as cancelled flights, loss of passport, illness and injury. The consumer health website provides some great insights into the benefits of travel insurance.

My role with Chill has allowed me to learn more about the insurance industry than I did before but you don’t have to work in industry to get the cover you need. Maybe I’m a bit biased but the blogs we publish have been a great help to me since I started working with the company as they have helped me come to grips with what cover is available and what I need it for.

If you have any areas that you’d like us to cover in our blogs we’d love to hear about them in the comments below or on our Facebook page or on @chill_insurance.
