Chill Insurance is currently on the lookout for a Senior Data Scientist.

This is a specialist role within the Pricing and Data Science team and reporting into the Transformation and Analytics Director.

This is an exciting senior role, working alongside technical and business experts, and pivotal to the delivery of Chill’s Pricing roadmap.

The successful candidate will be responsible for building best-in-class predictive statistical models as well as machine learning (ML) models and pipelines to drive the retail pricing agenda. They will take work alongside a team of data scientists and ML Engineers to drive our pricing agenda, executing an ambitious roadmap and take Chill’s analytical capability to the next level.

This is a technical/hands-on role, that would be especially suited to ambitious, quality-conscious experienced data-scientists, driven by the commercial impact of their work as well as best-practice implementation. The successful candidate will also have significant exposure to leaders across the organisation, and ability to collaborate and communicate effectively is a must.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy predictive and ML models of conversion and retention (in Python, Emblem/Radar), as well as pricing optimisation models;
  • Manage pricing optimisation and predictive models to ensure their correct function and maintain/update/replace them as appropriate;
  • Proactively engage with stakeholders across the firm to interpret and understand business requirements for pricing and data science solutions;
  • Writing unit test to ensure pipelines are robust and continually evolving the testing strategy;
  • Upskill and collaborate with the wider pricing, data, tech and analytical communities in areas of best practice, coding standards, tooling and solution design;
  • Design and develop new ML pricing applications and techniques that will act as a meaningful competitive differentiator;
  • Ensure data governance and data policies are being adhered to, in the delivery of high quality analytics solutions and services.

Experience & Qualifications

  • University degree in a numerate subject (e.g. Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics);
  • Experience in driving commercial outcomes through the delivery of data science solutions on production environments with a robust route-to-live process;
  • Substantial knowledge of Python and libraries (e.g. scikit-learn, pandas, numpy);
  • Experience of Radar and Emblem is a plus
  • Excellent SQL skills, including high performance SQL queries
  • Strong knowledge of applied statistics skills, such as statistical testing, propensity matching, statistical modelling, classification, etc.;
  • Solid exposure to machine learning and open-source tools (model development & implementation in production);
  • Experience with AWS, MS Azure would be an advantage but not essential
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry would be an advantage but not essential
  • Knowledge of insurance pricing would be an advantage but not essential
