If you are on the look-out for new staff in 2020, it might be worth signing up for the JobsPlus incentive.

JobsPlus is a scheme where you can claim tax free payments for hiring people who have been out of work for long periods. The incentive is organised by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection and there are two levels of payment - €7,500 and €10,000.

Tax Free

JobsPlus is growing in popularity as a recruitment tool due to the significant rewards available to employers. The payment is made in instalments and is not considered as taxable income in the eyes of the Revenue Commissioners.

Open To All Businesses

The great thing about JobsPlus is that it is open to everyone regardless if you are an independent tradesperson, small business or shop owner. If you are interested in getting involved, the first step is to apply online via welfare.ie. Once your application has been approved, you can start recruiting by contacting your local Intreo Centre or employment services office. Positions can also be advertised on the JobsIreland.ie website.

Suitable Candidates

Once candidates have been shortlisted, you should ask them to log on to jobsplus.ie to check their eligibility for the programme. The candidate will receive a JP1 form to complete and should return this to the employer for consideration. Once an offer has been made, the Department is informed and final documentation is filed.

Key Benefit

The rules relating to the JobsPlus incentive are quite fair and reasonable. Eligible employees must be getting un-employment benefits or be signing on for credits.

Here are the key benefits available to employers from the start of 2018.

  • Over 25 – on the live register for at least 312 days in the last 18 months. €7,500.
  • In receipt of jobseekers allowance transition payment. €7500.
