After a summer of high drama and high scoring the final of the 2014 All Ireland hurling championship is upon us as Kilkenny take on Tipperary in the senior championship final and Kilkenny face Limerick in the minor championship final.
Kilkenny and Tipperary last faced each other in the 2009, 2010 and 2011 finals with Kilkenny edging the series with two victories. Since then the two teams have gone through a series of squad developments as well as changes to key personnel. Both teams reached this year’s final thanks to semi final victories over Limerick and Cork respectively.
Kilkenny hold a slight advantage over Tipperary this year thanks to their extra time victory in this year’s league final. But that doesn't mean that Tipperary should be counted out as they overcame Cork in the semi final after coming through some very tough qualifiers.
The 2014 final has the chance to be one for the ages due to the pedigree and legacy of the two teams involved plus the fact that both teams will be looking to reclaim their position as the top team in the country. Croke Park is bound to be a sell out as fans from all three teams involved on the day, in the minor and senior finals are sure to be looking forward for the chance to see these two hurling behemoths battle to lift the Liam McCarthy trophy aloft.
