Chill Insurance is currently on the lookout for a Data Scientist to join our Team. We're after individuals who are talented, motivated, and ambitious, who has a very strong skills in data analysis and reporting, someone who is confident and can think outside the box. This is a technical specialist role reporting into the Senior Data Scientist, and the candidate will have a strong background in Machine Learning and Predictive Analytics. The role is responsible for delivery of the day-to-day elements of the Chill Data Science services including change requests, ad-hoc requests and business-as-usual (BAU) activities.

The core portion of this role will be spent on managing and enhancing existing predictive analytics solutions and developing and building new solutions through Python/R. The candidate will also assist in developing data driven, insightful analysis to answer key stakeholder questions, with a focus on cause and effect relationships, addressing business challenges, identifying opportunities and providing actionable recommendations.

This role will also require the candidate to engage with the business and/or external customers to clarify business requirements and design appropriate analytics solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with the business and external customers to interpret and understand business requirements for potential data science & analytics solutions and secure appropriate business support and approvals;
  • Develop and deploy predictive models across a variety of problem domains;
  • Manage models after deployment to ensure their correct function and maintain/update/replace them as appropriate;
  • Design and build new data objects within the Chill Data Warehouse layer and Tableau reporting layer as required to support model development and also non-model change requests where these are assigned to the Data Science team;
  • Manage and support ad-hoc analytics / data requests from the business, and using a data-led approach to identify opportunities for performance improvement and provide actionable recommendations;
  • System test all development objects in line with specifications and manage deployment release of analytics solutions to production environments, and maintain technical documents as required on all analytics reporting solutions;
  • Ensure consistency in the development approach, documentation and apply the Chill Data development standards and quality level to all areas of activity;
  • Ensure Data Governance and policies are being adhered to in delivering high quality reporting & analytics solutions and services;
  • Liaise with IT on related projects or change items and manage 3rd party reporting software/toolsets where required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • University degree in Computer Science or related field (e.g. mathematical science). Ideally hold a post graduate qualification.
  • General knowledge of a range of machine learning techniques, ideally including Generalised Linear Models (GLMs), Gradient Boosting Machines (GBMs) and Random Forests (RFs);
  • Experience with more advanced techniques (e.g. text mining, neural networks) would be advantageous;
  • At least 2 years of proven experience applying these techniques to address business problems;
  • Strong knowledge of applied statistics skills, such as statistical testing, propensity matching, statistical modelling, classification, etc.;
  • Solid exposure to machine learning and open source tools in terms of both model development & implementation;
  • Proficiency in Python/R and SQL;
  • Experience in delivering data science solutions on production environments with a robust route-to-live process;
  • Experience with Tableau or similar data visualisation & reporting tools;
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics would be an advantage but not essential;
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry would be an advantage but not essential
