Planning Your Trip to Croker
Have a Day to Remember
We’re now approaching the business end of the GAA season where silverware will be won, dreams made and legends created at Croke Park. If you’ve managed to get your hands on the hottest tickets in town to see Cork take on Clare in the hurling or if you're going to be there to see who lifts the Sam Maguire, remember it’s never too early to begin planning your trip to the home of GAA.
Irish Rail normally put on extra train services for the big games in the capital, but we know many of you will prefer to drive, so here’s our top tips for travelling to Croker:
- Check your vehicle
- On final day you want to be cheering your county on, not worrying about getting to the ground. With this in mind in the week leading up to the match you should give your car the once over, as well as check the tyre pressure and oil levels to spot if any work needs to be done to the vehicle.
- Map your route
- Before you depart for Dublin, we’d recommend that you plan your route. You may know the way to Croker like the back of your hand, but you should still check for road works, closures or potential traffic jams and leave yourself enough time in case there are any delays.
- Schedule some stops
- If you’re going to be driving for more than two hours, we’d advise you to schedule some stops along the way, especially if you’re not used to tackling long distances. Before you leave work out the best places to stop, take a break and grab a cup of coffee (or two).
- Plan your parking
- Trying to find a place to park on match day can be difficult with over 80,000 others trying to make their way to the match. We advise that you arrive early to get a prime parking spot or use the facilities available at Clonliffe College, Park Rite, Q-Park or the Mater Hospital.
