What is the Maximum age on an Annual Multi Trip?

Maximum age is 74 years of age. (persons over 70yrs of age or older must hold valid VHI / BUPA (Quinn Healthcare) / VIVAS membership.

What is the maximum length of a trip?

19 – 65 yrs – Max duration Premier or Premier Plus Cover 60 Days

66 – 69 yrs - Max duration Premier or Premier Plus Cover 31 Days / No Ski

70 – 74 yrs - Max duration Premier or Premier Plus Cover 21 Days / No Ski and must hold Private Health Insurance with Medical Cover Abroad.

Unlimited number of trips for all age categories.

Is Wintersports cover included in the price?

Wintersports can be included for an additional Premium for persons 65 yrs or younger.

What is a Top Up Policy?

A Top up policy is available to persons who hold Private Health Insurance with a minimum of €55,000 medical cover abroad. In the event of an inpatient medical claim abroad you would claim against your private health insurance provider first up to your limit and then our policy provides cover beyond that limit to our medical expenses limit. All other aspects of the policy remain as normal. In return you receive a major discount on the price of your policy once you enter your Private Health Insurance Plan details when booking.

What happens if only 1 person has Private Health Insurance cover in a family/couple?

If you are booking a Couple Policy or Family Policy, all insured on the policy must have the VHI / BUPA (Quinn) / VIVAS cover. If only one has VHI/BUPA/VIVAS Cover, then the others must be issued on a separate policy or all persons are quoted based on Non Private Health Membership basis.

What Private Health Insurance plans are not covered by the Top Up Policy ?

VHI Plan P and BUPA (Quinn) Health Starter Plan are not covered by the special discounted rate as they do not provide medical cover abroad.

What should I/we do if my/our Private Health Insurance Plan is cancelled/lapses during the term of the policy?

If your Private Health Insurance cover lapses or is cancelled then you must contact Chill.ie immediately on 0818 286 450 and an additional charge will apply. If you have/had a pre-existing medical condition at that time of the change then you will have to ring health check 091 745751 and declare your condition/s like a standard policy.

Can an Adult or child travel separately on a Family Annual Multi Trip Policy?

Yes an adult spouse can travel separately. A child under 16 years cannot travel separately and must travel with the Adults on the policy. If the child is over 16 they can travel independently as part of a school trip.

What is the definition of a family on an Annual Multi Trip Policy?

2 co-habiting Adults/spouses and their dependant children under 19 years of age.

Can I forward start the commencement date of my Annual Multi Trip Policy?

Yes you can forward start the commencement date of your policy by 90 Days however please note that there is no cover including cancellation until the start date of the policy.


Single Trip

What is the Maximum age on an Single Trip Policy?

The Maximum age is 86 years of age.

What is the Maximum Duration on an Single Trip Policy?

The Maximum duration is 365 days for persons under 68 years. Persons 68 – 75 years is subject to a maximum duration of 35 Days. Persons 76 – 79 years is subject to a maximum duration of 22 Days and Persons 80 – 86 years is subject to a maximum duration of 15 Days

What is the definition of a Family on a Single Trip Policy?

2 Co-habiting Adults/spouses and their dependant children under 19 years of age.

Can children under the ages of 19 travel alone?

Yes they can but they will be charged the full adult rate.

What Additional Covers are available?

You have the option to upgrade your policy to include the following covers - Excess Waiver, Golf Cover, Business Equipment Cover, Wedding Cover and Wintersports cover. Details of cover levels and policy limits can be viewed on the Chill.ie website. All covers are subject to an additional premium.

Backpacker

What is the age limit on a Backpacker Policy?

39 Years of age is the max age limit on the Backpacker Policy.
What is the maximum duration on stopovers allowed?

You are entitled to spend up to 20% of the insured duration of the trip in another area. For example if you are buying a 365 days policy to Australia you are entitled to spend 20% (73 days) in other areas other than Australia.

What is covered in the Backpacker policy?

The basic rate covers the Medical Expenses, Personal Accident, Personal Liability, Legal expenses, Catastrophe Cover, Cancellation& Curtailment, Mugging Benefit, Baggage and Money, Missed Departure, Holiday Abandonment and Hijack.

What is the total duration on wintersports on a Backpacker policy?

There is a total of 31 days of wintersports covered provided which is subject to an extra premium. You may use these days in any order that you choose. Wintersports definitions and policy limits can be found on the policy wording.

What is the maximum trip duration?

365 Days is the maximum amount of time that we are currently able to provide.

What is Exam Failure cover ?

This is an optional cover which you may take in the event of you being away and being called home to re-sit the exams. The Insurance must be taken out prior to sitting your Public University Exams.

What should I do if my details change or if I want to extend my policy?

Please contact us including your policy number and the required alteration. In most cases we will simply update and re-send your details by email. If you need to extend your cover then there may be an additional premium to pay.

General Questions

How will I receive my Travel Cover Document and Validation certificate?

When a purchase is made on this site you will automatically be able to print a formal cover letter, validation certificate and Travel Cover Document. This document is your insurance certificate and it is also automatically sent to your email address. We strongly recommend you bring your travel cover document and validation certificate when you travel.

If you have entered your mobile phone number when booking then you will also receive a free text message with your Certificate Number, Emergency Telephone Number Abroad and Health Check Telephone Number.

What should I do if my details change or if I want to extend my policy?

Please contact us including your policy number and the required alteration. In most cases we will simply update re-send your details by email. If you need to extend your cover then there may be an additional premium to pay.

What should I or any of my travelling companions do if I/we have a pre-existing medical condition?

If you are aware, at the time of taking out this policy that you or a traveling companion have/had:

i)

Any Medical Condition you have, or have had, for which You are taking prescribed medication or are waiting to receive, or have received treatment (including surgery, tests or investigations) within the last 2 years then you must contact Health Check on 0818 286 274 and declare your pre-existing Medical Condition.

Please note we cannot provide cover in respect of the following:

i)

Any Medical Condition for which You, your travelling companion or family member have received a terminal prognosis.

ii)

Any Medical Condition for which You, your travelling companion or family member have not had a diagnosis.

iii)

Any Medical Condition for which You, your travelling companion or family member are on a waiting list for or have knowledge of the need for surgery, in patient treatment or investigation at a hospital, clinic or nursing home.

iv)

Any circumstances You are aware of that could reasonably be expected to give rise to a claim on this policy.

Define a Couple?

A couple can be defined as two co-habiting persons between the ages of 19 and 65 who are common law partners that have been co habiting for at least 6 months. This includes same sex couples.
What number of weeks is Pregnancy covered up until?
You are covered for pregnancy up to the thirty second week. If you had any previous complications or a miscarriage then they will need to contact Health check on 0818 286 274 to declare your condition.

What if I need to Cancel my holiday/trip?

If it is deemed necessary to cancel your travel arrangements you must contact your Travel Agent/Tour Operator or Transport Company immediately and confirm in writing to AXA Assistance Claims within 48 hours. Please note that the definition of relative under this policy excludes aunt, uncle and cousin (see policy wording for full definition on page 10)

What should I be aware of in respect of Baggage/Money Claims?

If any item of your baggage is lost or stolen or damaged whilst in transit then you must report this to the Airline, Hotel or Tour Operator Representative immediately. Baggage excludes prams, wheelchairs, bicycles, diving equipment, computer equipment, antiques and mobile phones. It is important that you obtain a property damage/loss report or a PIR in the case of damage/loss by an airline. Fragile items are excluded under this policy. Cash must always be kept in a safety deposit box.
Do I need a Police Report for stolen items
If you are unfortunate enough to have any stolen items or belongings whilst on holiday, then you must notify the local police within 24 hours and obtain a copy of the police report.

If you have private medical insurance, then you must also contact that Company’s Assistance telephone number and inform them of your medical emergency.

Am I covered for Legal Liability of mechanically propelled vehicles or watercraft?

No there is no liability cover for the use of mechanically propelled vehicles or watercraft. Please check that your legal liability is adequately covered with the operator/car hire company before hiring/using motor vehicles, motorised water craft or aircraft (other than as passenger).

How do I make a Claim?

You can download a claim form at www.travelclaims.ie
All claims must be reported to AXA Assistance Claims, 1st Floor, Abco Kovex Building, Swords Business Park, Swords, Co Dublin. Tel: 01 8833132. You must enclose all documentation when claiming including your policy document and your Validation cert.

What should I do if I have a complaint about the policy or a claims decision?

Please refer to the complaints procedure on page 28 of the policy wording.

Is there a cooling off period?

Yes there is a 14 Day cooling off period from receipt of the policy either at time of print, receipt of email or receipt by post.
