Marine Insurance FAQ's

What is typically covered?

  • Liability for injury to your passengers.
  • Liability for accidental damage to another property e.g. another boat or marina.
  • Liability for injury to third party.
  • Damage caused by storm, accident, fire, theft and malicious damage.
  • The craft whilst in transit.
  • Dropping off of an engine.

Can more than one owner be listed on the policy?

An owner is someone with a financial interest in the boat so if there is more than one owner, each person must be listed on the policy. If a claim is made for damage to the craft or engine, payment is made out in the name of the joint owners/insured persons where applicable.

Is my boat covered when not in the water?

Yes.

If my boat is not berthed/based in Ireland, can I still get insurance with Chill.ie?

No. Chill.ie only insure crafts based in Ireland. However, our underwriters have extended the policy to include inland waters, Irish coastal waters and UK waters.

Can I insure my Jet Ski or Catamaran with Chill.ie?

We do not have a facility as of yet to insure this type of craft.

What does laid up period mean?

If the boat is left in water and not in an approved/secured marina during dates specified on the policy, damage to the boat would not be covered. Basically, craft that are not in an approved/secured marina must be secured on dry land during the dates specified for cover to apply.
